The FreeBSD's ports/packages is a frame work to make it easy to
install/deinstall softwares.
The essence of ports is a Makefile: to install software to do
`make intall', then gets source file from remote sites via ftp
or http, builds programs, installs program files and resisters
installed program files.
If a `port' is resistered as the FreeBSD ports collection, source
file is put on FreeBSD's ftp sites, then binary form package is
created and distributed, if one who has copyrights allow it.
Please see ($B:rF|=q$$$?(B URL) for more.
